Microfiltered Water Refills

Visit the Greens (WA) stall and refill your water-bottle with FREE chilled, microfiltered still or sparkling ProAqua water, as a great eco-alternative to bottled water.

All Weekend:

Worm Farming, Kitchen (Bokashi) Composting

and Water Testing

Roll up your sleeves and get sustainable with "The Sustainability Store's" range of easy eco-technoloies which anyone can use at home. Free activities include:

 

  • Worm farming with opportunities for the visitors to examine and handle compost worms up close (gloves supplied as needed)

  • Kitchen (Bokashi) Composting with demonstrations and activities on how this method can assist in utilising kitchen scraps

  • Water testing where visitors would be able to test the quality of the water they have brought with them using the TDS or total dissolved solids method
     

  • FREE activity: "Suatainability Store" Stall S15, Repurposing Ridge

  • Bring your drinking water for testing and even a few kitchen scraps if you like!

Hans Massage

De-stress with a blissful Chinese massage or reflexology treatment

Grown-ups and kids are welcome to visit Forest Fairy Amy for some stunning eco-designs to remember the day by.

The Pick 'n' Play Human Arrrcade (Pirated Copy)

Join Pirateman Michael Speranza and for the
playful premier of  his  fully-upcyled, delightfully
interactive "Human Arrrcade Machine".

Bee-Keeping

Kennedys Honey produces pure unprocessed honey locally from the eucalyptus trees and wildflowers of WA. Join them to learn about bee-keeping, honey harvesting and how they make candles out of hand-poured 100% Pure Beeswax Candles.

 

Try Free Honey Tasting, and find the Queen Bee in the Observation Hive!

  • Bring: an empty container to fill with honey (charge only for the weight of honey)

 

Kid's Upcycling Experience: Crafty Clubhouse

Some of the best recyclers I know are Kindergarten Artists!

 

While grown-ups sometimes get obsessed with new plasma TVs or kitchen appliances, any three year old that a carboard box can be anything from a house to a stove to a racing car to a monster!

 

So kids of all ages can join Joan in the Crafty Clubhouse to do some Upcycling activities of their own.

 

Joan will have lots of materials and ideas to help you ... but it's all about what YOU can create.

So don't let adults have all the fun ... come and show them YOUR upcycling ideas!

 

  • FREE activity: "Crafty Clubhouse", outdoor shack behind watertank, Fairtrade Forest

  • Bring: glass jars, cardboard tubes, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, show boxes, tin cans, plastic disposable cups Plastic bottle lids and jar lids, old wrapping paper... and any other crafty bits you can spare.

 

Food Preserving

Try your hand at this "heritage skill"
of food preserving - a great way to prevent
waste utilise produce locally and work
towards food security.

 

Pick up some great recipes and tips and 
see demonstrations of how to make jam,
jelly, fruit pie filling, chutney, relish and pickles! Yum!

  • Bring any excess produce from your backyard or community garden.

Two amazing sculptors share their works & stories.

 

Coast-based Susie upcycles drift wood and items that wash up on beaches. Her farm-based friend Natalie works with junk discarded on the farm including tin, chain and old clothing.

Discover the community exchange system which is an alternative to money!Anything can be exchanged, from personal care, dog walking, personal tuition, gardening, haircuts, new or secondhand goods, clothes & home-grown produce.

2.30pm AND 4pm: Earthwise Sustainable Technology and Permaculture Tour 

Meet @ Earthwise Stall, “Pink Church” Op Shop entry, SW corner of Fairtrade Forest

Learn about Earthwise’s retrofitted alternative technology building, with solar panels, 38,572L rainwater tank, permaculture gardens, eco-heat pump, recycling systems, holistic organic gardening and other innovations.

 

4.30pm: Upcycling the Economy
with Senator Scott Ludlam

What would it look like if a city of two million people upcycled?

 

How can large scale upcycling and recycling projects complement local scale upcycling efforts?

2pm: Eco Faeries!

Fairtrade Forrest

Join Faerie Cara as she flies in to sprinkle a little eco-magic and help children upcycle their very own Plant Terrarium to take home.

 

  • Bring: a jar (with lid!) any others you can spare!

 

2pm: Artist Talk: Sean Avery

Crossways Workshop Room, Ecology Esplanade – enter from 317 Bagot Rd.

Exhibition Judge Sean Avery is a professional repurposing artist, along with being a published writer-illustrator, graphic designer and sculptor whose work has appeared in many high-profile collections. Discover how Sean has built a career as a sculptor whose work is "all about repurposing the discarded to make something beautiful".

4pm Artist Talk: Richard Hammer
Crossways Workshop Room, Ecology Esplanade – enter from 317 Bagot Rd.
 

Richard is an established sculptor whose work brings together his love of cycling and re-cycling!

 

His “chaotic, kinetic, wind-driven sculpture” often “plays in the wind and he likes exploring the kinetic sculptural potential of recycled bicycle parts, especially wheels and rims.
